Overview
The ATO has released new forms and schedule for 2025. Apart from minor cyclical changes for the financial year, there are no field changes to the self-managed superannuation fund annual return (SAR), capital gains tax (CGT) schedule, Trust Income Schedule (TIS) and the losses schedule for 2025.
SMSF Return-related changes
- New validation added to prevent lodgment failures that checks the Trust Income Schedule (TIS) to ensure at least one security exists when the value recorded at 11M 'Gross Distribution' is greater than zero.

Non-return related SMSF changes
Superannuation guarantee (SG) rate
From 1 July 2025, the superannuation guarantee (SG) rate has increased by 0.5% to 12.0%. That brings the maximum super contribution base to $62,500 per quarter.
Indexation of General and Personal Transfer Balance Cap (TBC)
From 1 July 2025, the General Transfer Balance Cap (TBC) will increase by $100,000 to $2,000,000; the personal transfer balance cap may also be indexed proportionally for eligible members.
Total super balance (TSB) thresholds for non-concessional contribution (NCC) bring-forward rule
From 1 July 2025, thresholds for non-concessional contributions bring-forward rule have changed:

| Less than $1.76m | $120,000 (or $360,000 by using bring-forward rule) |
| $1.76m - less than $1.88m | $120,000 (or $240,000 by using bring-forward rule) |
| $1.88m - less than $2.00m | $120,000 |
| $2.00m or more | Nil |
