Issue

I need to lodge the Annual Return for an SMSF before the end of the financial year in order to wind up the fund.

Background

The ATO only releases the final SMSF Annual Return stationery around June every year.

If you would like to lodge the Annual Return earlier for an SMSF that is winding up you can use the previous year's ATO stationery through Class and lodge this manually with the ATO. 

Alternatively you can lodge electronically once the current financial year's stationary is available in late June each year. 

Resolution

Available at any time until the electronic lodgment is enabled.

1. Go to Fund > Fund Details > enter the End Date
2. Go to Periodic Processing > Period Update > choose the financial year > run the final Period Update to the End Date
3. Finalise Tax
4. Go to Reports > Run Report > search Annual Return, you will be able to generate Annual Return - SMSF for the current year on the previous year's template. (CGT Schedule and Losses Schedule may not able to be generated until the Year End.) 
5. Cross out the Financial Year and replace it with the current financial year
6. Fill in the Audit Date or any other required details
7. Post the forms to the ATO
