Why isn't a Member TRIS Account appearing in TRIS Conversion screen?
Background
When a member turns 65 or a member retires before 65, Class converts the Transition to Retirement pension (TRIS) into TRIS in retirement phase.
When generating the TBAR record, the member TRIS Account is not appearing in the TRIS conversion screen.
Cause
There are three causes of this issue:
Cause 1: The member retires before 65 but the member retirement information has not been entered in the fund in Class.
Cause 2: An incorrect pension start date was entered while uploading the fund. If the pension start date entered is prior to the member reaching preservation age, the TRIS conversion screen will not include that TRIS account for TBAR record.
For example, if a member's date of birth is 8 September 1954 and the pension account start date entered in Class is 1 July 2009. The TRIS conversion screen will not include this pension account for TBAR purposes as at 8 September 2019 (when member turns 65) as the pension was started when the member was 54 years 9 months old, i.e., before reaching preservation age of 55 years.
Cause 3: The condition of release is missing in the Pension establishment screen of the TRIS account.
Resolution
The resolution of this issue depends on the cause.
Cause 1: Enter the retirement information in the Member transitions
Cause 2: Review and update the pension commencement date
Cause 3: Select the Condition of Release when the TRIS was established
Once the cause is corrected the record should show in the TRIS conversion screen.
Enter the retirement information into Member Transitions
Navigate to Fund Level > Members > Browse Members
- Click on the relevant member's name
- From the Maintain Member Screen, click on "Member Transitions" tab
- Click on "New"
- Enter retire date in "Effective Date"
- Select "Retire" from the drop-down list for "Transition Type"
- Click on Save
Review and update the pension commencement date
Navigate to Fund Level > Members > Browse Members
- Click on the relevant pension account
- From the pension detail screen, click on "Edit"
- From the pop-up screen, click on "View Establishment details"
- Update the pension establishment date to the date the member has attained the preservation age
- Click on Save
Select the Condition of Release when the TRIS was established
Navigate to Fund Level > Members > Browse Members
- Click on the TRIS account
- From the pension detail screen, click on Edit
- From the pop-up screen, click on 'Maintain Establishment Details'
- Select the relevant Condition of Release
- Click on Save
